The same might be said of Palestine (as it came to be called after World War I), the territory that includes the contemporary State of Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip (or simply, Gaza). The area in question is quite small. It stretches from the Mediterranean Sea in the west to the Jordan River in the east and from Lebanon in the north to the Gulf of Aqaba and the Sinai Peninsula in the south.
