Summary: The use of Doppler effect methods for the tracking of the satellites was examined. Some of these methods require hypotheses on the motion of the vehicle and therefore can be employed only for vehicles having inertial motion. Others do not need hypotheses, a priori, on the motion and therefore can be applied to the tracking of propelled vehicles. The methods of the second type appear to assure high accuracy, of the same order as the CW phase measurement systems, presently in use for the tracking of big missiles. The system currently use, that is the Doppler tracking by means of common receivers, though rather primitive, seems to be practical and cheap. Its main feature is that no modification is required for tracking satellites equipped with very different transmitters. On the other hand, a large number of arrangements of the equipment is possible.
