Summary: This volume celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Per-Olov Löwdin, who would have been 100 in 2016. He was appointed as the first chair in Quantum Chemistry at Uppsala University in1960, and is one of the founders of the science of quantum chemisty, a subdiscipline that grew out of the synthesis and integration of knowledge and work in physics, chemistry, biology, and applied mathematics. This volume attempts to reflect the many varied accomplishments of Per-Olov Löwdin. The invited writers involve Per-Olov Löwdin's first recruits to the new field and continue with PhD students supervised in Uppsala and Florida along with international summer school acolytes and collaborators. The field of quantum chemistry has emerged as a subject of its own, and the chapters will display the multifaceted overlaps with various other fields with contributions from analytic work, accurate QED perturbations, via strong correlations in superconductors, time-dependent approaches, partitioning techniques, photonic schemes, thermodynamic conditions, and learning-memory to fundamental applications in medicine.
