Summary: "This book focuses on the basics of particle physics, while covering as many frontier advances as possible. The book introduces readers to the principle of symmetry (Chapter 2), properties and classification of particles (Chapter 3), the quark model of hadrons and the interactions of particles (Chapter 5). Readers are then guided step by step on the unified theory of electromagnetic and weak interaction (Chapter 8), as well as the gauge theory of strong interaction: quantum chromodynamics (QCD) (Chapter 9). Chapter 6 on electromagnetic interaction covers the deep inelastic scattering and parton model. Chapter 7 on weak interactions systematically discusses the mixing of electrically neutral particles and anti-particles of neutral K meson, neutral B meson and neutral D meson, and CP non-conservation. Chapter 9 on strong interaction briefly discusses charmonium, exotic states, glue-ball, hybrid state, and lattice gauge theory. Neutrino oscillation and CP violation of lepton system are studied in Chapter 10. Chapter 11 offers several new models beyond the standard model, such as the grand unified theory and supersymmetric model. Finally, the basic content of cosmology in relation to particle physics is highlighted in Chapter 12. This book is suitable for senior undergraduates, graduate students, teachers and researchers in the field of particle physics. It is also valuable for experimental and theoretical particle physicists as a foundation for further research"--
